What Do I Need to Know?
An accommodation letter from is an official document informing you that a student in your course has a disability that KSU is legally obligated to accommodate. The accommodations in this letter are based on an extensive plan worked out between the student and a trained, professional SDS staff member. The plan reflects the important regulations and policies and the results of lengthy interactions with this student to determine their specific needs. In fact, the accommodations on this letter may represent only a small part of the effort being made by the student and their SDS representative to ensure the student鈥檚 ability to succeed is not unfairly impeded.
Because disabilities impact academic performance differently for every student, it will help you to remember that all accommodation plans are tailored to each student's specific needs. This means that the diagnosis for the student does not necessarily determine what accommodations they qualify for, and students with the same diagnosis may need different accommodations. We are obligated to follow the accommodations for a student, regardless of past experiences with other students with the same perceived disability.
