Experience Blythe’s powerful, versatile voice in concert hosted by the Bailey School of Music
Kennesaw State University’s Bailey School of Music is thrilled to announce a special performance by world-renowned mezzo-soprano and pianist on September 20, 2024, at the Dr. Bobbie Bailey & Family Performance Center. This concert offers an opportunity to experience one of opera’s most powerful and versatile voices.
Blythe, celebrated for her rich vocal timbre and commanding stage presence, has graced the world’s most prestigious opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, and Opéra National de Paris. Known for her remarkable interpretations of both classic and contemporary repertoire, she has captivated audiences with her performances in roles ranging from Bizet’s Carmen to Wagner’s Fricka.
This performance promises to be a unique and intimate experience: a lyrical journey highlighting one of the most important and celebrated musical artists in the Great American Songbook history, Georgia native Johnny Mercer. Mercer may be most known for penning the lyrics in the song “,” sung by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Audiences can expect an evening of profound artistry and emotional depth through Blythe’s powerful voice and nuanced interpretations, delightfully accompanied by McCullough.
“We are incredibly honored to welcome Stephanie and Ryan to our stage,” said Dr. Nathan Nabb, Director of the Bailey School of Music. “Their presence here is a testament to KSU’s commitment to bring world-class artists to our community. This performance will undoubtedly inspire our students and enrich the cultural landscape of Kennesaw.”
, Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera and the Director of KSU Opera, added, “These artists bring the highest levels of professional artistic achievement with them to the stage. The students will have a unique opportunity to see the artists’ exemplification in performance and work with them up close in both opera rehearsal and a masterclass.”
In the masterclass, Blythe will provide students with invaluable insights into the craft of singing and the demands of a professional career in music. This engagement underscores Blythe’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of vocal talent.
